Seven Eco-Friendly Cleaning Habits for a Healthier Home

Greener cleaning is not about scrubbing harder or spending more — it is about being smarter with what you already use. These seven habits reduce harsh chemicals, save money and leave your home just as fresh.

1. Reach for microfibre first

A good microfibre cloth lifts dust and grime with nothing but water, thanks to its fine split fibres. Keep a set colour-coded by room to avoid cross-contamination between the kitchen and bathroom.

2. Let vinegar do the heavy lifting

Diluted white vinegar cuts through limescale on taps, glass and tiles. Mix one part vinegar to three parts water in a spray bottle. Avoid using it on natural stone, which can be etched by acids.

3. Deodorise with bicarbonate of soda

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on carpets and upholstery, leave it for fifteen minutes, then vacuum. It neutralises odours rather than masking them, which is exactly what you want in a humid climate.

4. Open the windows

Ventilation is the most underrated cleaning tool there is. A few minutes of cross-breeze clears indoor air, reduces moisture and helps prevent the musty smell that builds up in closed rooms.

5. Buy concentrates and refill

Concentrated cleaners and refill pouches drastically cut plastic waste. Keep a couple of sturdy spray bottles and top them up rather than buying a new bottle every time.

6. Tackle spills while they are fresh

  • Fresh spills lift with water and a cloth — no strong chemicals needed.
  • Blot, don't rub, to avoid pushing stains deeper into fabric.
  • The longer a spill sits, the more aggressive the product you'll need later.

7. Choose low-toxicity products for the tough jobs

Some tasks genuinely need a dedicated cleaner. When they do, look for plant-based, low-residue formulas that are safe around children and pets once dry — the same kind our teams use on every visit.

Adopt even three of these habits and you'll notice a fresher home with fewer harsh fumes. And when you'd rather hand it over entirely, our cleaners bring eco-friendly products as standard.
